An HEB ISD Schools of Choice Program

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) is a set of special opportunities offered to students through HEB ISD's Schools of Choice program. In our school district, STEM is built on problem- and project-based learning experiences.

Prepare for future career opportunities with problem/project-based learning experiences, with pathways for Computer Science (Euless JH), Cybersecurity/Networking (Hurst JH) and Engineering/Robotics (Central JH). All STEM programs have related courses offered for high school students at the Buinger CTE Academy and those are currently being finalized for the 2021-2022 school year. Classes at BCTEA are available to students from both L.D. Bell and Trinity High Schools.

    Real-world Advantage through Community Partnerships

Where other schools simply offer a pre-packaged STEM curriculum, HEB ISD leverages strong community partnerships to provide unmatched learning opportunities. HEB ISD students hear from real professionals doing cutting-edge work in STEM fields.

Global aerospace leader Bell Helicopter supports HEB ISD with visits from actual engineers, drone competitions, field trips to working facilities, resources for STEM programs, and more.

Texas Health Resources, one of the largest health systems in the United States, provides guest speakers on medical and health topics, field trips to medical facilities, and clinical rotation opportunities for health science students.

Our STEM programs also receive support through connections with NTE Mobility Partners, Lockheed Martin, the U.S. Navy, Barnes & Noble, and more.

    STEM for All Students

STEM skills will empower today's students to excel tomorrow, so we don't confine STEM learning to these specific programs. STEM concepts and activities are incorporated throughout classes at all grade levels in all HEB ISD schools.

Every HEB ISD school is equipped with a Makerspace. These dedicated workspaces are supplied with consumable materials that students can use to build their own inventions and explore new concepts with a hands-on approach.

HEB ISD's Buinger CTE Academy allows students from both high schools to study advanced STEM specializations including Robotics, Aeronautical Engineering, Digital Art & Animation, Architectural Design, Health Science & Medicine, and more.

Each year, students participate in programs like Hour of Code and the Full STEAM Ahead conference. These programs inspire self-confidence that all students can pursue STEM education and careers.

  • What is Schools of Choice?

HEB ISD's Schools of Choice programs go beyond the "core" curriculum. These limited enrollment programs focus on specific, special topics. Students can grow their artistic talents, explore cutting-edge advancements, and develop skills to compete with a global workforce.

Each program has its own set of requirements and its own academic path to completion, giving families the freedom to decide which path is right for their child.
